QUILTED ART:
SMALL QUILTS _ FOLDED STORIES
FOLDED STORIES is a series of small wall quilts that weave together found imagery, retro textiles, and repurposed materials to explore how women have been seen, framed, and imagined across generations. drawing from vintage photographs and printed ephemera, the work reflects on the male gaze and the ways women have both been shaped by it and learned to wield its power to their own advantage.
each piece folds these cultural images into a more intimate lineage, honoring jennifer’s mother and the domestic practices passed down through her family. by pairing imagery of women with worn fabrics, salvaged cloth, and materials carrying the softness and memory of everyday use, the quilts create layered narratives about visibility, agency, and inheritance.
in FOLDED STORIES, the act of quilting becomes a way to reclaim and reframe these images — transforming them from objects of observation into vessels of personal history. the series invites viewers to consider how stories are carried, altered, and protected through the folds of time, material, and memory.
